LumiNova®

(Strontium Aluminate based): Glows 10 times brighter & 10 times longer than Zinc Sulfide based pigments! LumiNova® is a class of newly developed phosphorescent (glow in the dark) pigments which are based on Strontium Oxide Aluminate chemistry. They are drastically different from conventional phosphorescent pigments which are either based on Zinc Sulfide or on radioisotopes for their self luminous properties. LumiNova® Special Grades for Special Applications

Is a class of newly developed phosphorescent (glow-in-the-dark) pigments which are based on Strontium Oxide Aluminate chemistry. They are drastically different from conventional phosphorescent pigments which are either based on Zinc Sulfide or on radioisotopes for their self-luminous properties. LumiNova® Pigments are in the TSCA and EINECS inventory and Nemoto & Co., Ltd. was granted the U.S. Patent in 1995 and since then in many other countries worldwide.

Zinc Sulfide Based Phosphorescent Pigments

These classic “glow in the dark” or phosphorescent pigments consist of very fine crystals of Zinc Sulfide. Copper is added to the Zinc Sulfide as an activator. This allows the crystals to absorb light and slowly emit it over time. This slow emission is called phosphorescence.

UV fluorescent (Security)

Thermochromic pigments

Thermochromic pigments are microcapsules that change color reversibly with temperature. The core contents of thermochromic pigments are leuco-dye, color developers and temperature controllers. By formulating with different temperature controllers, thermochromic pigments come in various activation temperatures.

NCC thermochromic pigments are manufactured by New Prismatic Enterprises Co. Ltd. of
Taipei, Taiwan. UMC is the exclusive distributor of these pigments in North America.

• Available Activation Temperatures: – 15 oC to + 70 oC

• Colors: 15 available colors for each activation temperature. All colors can be mixed with each other or added to other pigments.

Photochromic pigments

The photochromic pigments change color when exposed to sunlight/UV, and revert to their original color when the sunlight/UV is dimmed or blocked. After absorbing the energy of sunlight/UV, their molecular structure is changed, which causes their absorbed wavelength to be changed allowing a color to appear.

Color conversion from colorless to colored when excited by UV light:

Photochromic microencapsulated powder contains 2-5 % of photochromic dye and less than 3% of moisture, suitable for solvent/aqueous based ink/paint and plastic injection/extrusion. The average particle size is 3-10 mm.
